Aberdeen Airport is about 7 miles out of the city. Flights are offered to domestic and international destinations. Several low-cost airlines use the airport. It is also one of the world’s busiest commercial heliports due to the large numbers of passengers it transports to the offshore North Sea oil and gas rigs. There is a train station in Dyce which is 2 miles from the airport. It is unstaffed, but tickets can be bought on the train. Services run on the Aberdeen-Elgin-Inverness line about once an hour. There are also some through trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh. There is a bus service to the airport which ties in with the train times; this runs from around 7 am to 7.30 pm. It takes 10 minutes on the train to Aberdeen, and from there you can catch services to destinations across the country. Alternatively, you can catch a bus to Aberdeen from the airport. There are various local bus services. It takes about half an hour to get to the city centre and services are less frequent in the evenings and at weekends.
There is a long stay car park at Aberdeen Airport, within the perimeter. It is a 2 minute shuttle bus ride from the terminals, with buses running every few minutes. You can just turn up and pay, but this will cost more than booking in advance, which is possible for stays of 3 days or more. There are discounted prices available for offshore workers flying from Bristows, Scotia or Broomfield terminals. The facility has a Safe Car Park Award from Grampian Police and has 24 hour staffing, frequent patrols and CCTV. The postcode to use for satellite navigation is AB21 7DU.
The short stay car park is connected to the terminals with a covered walkway. This multi-story facility is really for those who want to park for a few hours or less, mainly for those meeting friends or relatives off flights. It can also be booked in advance, for the cheapest prices. It has the same security standards as the long stay car park and can be found using the same postcode for satellite navigation systems.
Priority parking is the most expensive option and offers exclusive perks. The allocated spaces are in the short stay car park, as close as possible to the terminal building. They are wider than normal and undercover. You can leave the car for up to 3 days. Passengers parking for more than 4 hours will receive one complimentary entry to Priority Security – the fast track to departures.
Cheaper prices can be obtained at the Aberdeen Airpark, an off site car park. Transfer time to the terminal is 5 minutes by courtesy bus. The facility has 24 hour staffing. Cars are checked the day before your return to ensure there are no problems, for example with flat batteries, and they are also defrosted and demisted where necessary.
