Glasgow Prestwick Airport is actually 32 miles from Glasgow. It is much closer to the town of Prestwick. In recent years it has seen passenger growth, mainly with the low-cost airlines.
The airport has its own train station, which is connected to the terminal via a covered walkway. All passengers travelling to the airport will receive a 50% discount on the standard rail fare. It takes 50 minutes by train to Glasgow. There is also a bus service to the city centre which takes 50 minutes.
If you need to check in before 7.30 am or arrive on a flight after 10.30 pm, you might have difficulty travelling by bus or train. For transport outside normal hours, there is an express bus between Edinburgh, Glasgow and the airport. Or, you might prefer to spend the night in a hotel near Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
There are long and short stay car parks available for those arriving by car, with prices varying according to the season, the distance of each car park from the airport, and the length of time you’d like to leave the car. Check the airport website for a quote. However, booking into a hotel with a holiday parking deal can actually work out cheaper than leaving your vehicle in the official airport car parks.
Terminal Short Stay parking is located right outside the terminal building, and the first 5 minutes is free to allow you to pick up or drop off passengers. You can book a space in advance and receive a discount on the gate price. Terminal Long Stay parking is suitable for short breaks. Promotional rates can be found online. Airport North – Long Stay is the economy car park. It must be booked in advance online or by telephone. It is further away from the terminal and a shuttle bus service is in operation.
There are a couple of off site car parks near Glasgow Prestwick Airport. They are further away than the official airport car parks, but offer courtesy transport to the terminal and competitive prices. Skypark also offers a meet and greet service, where they pick up your car at the airport and return it to you when you land back at Prestwick again.
