London City Airport is the smallest in the capital and the one with the most central location. Its airlines serve 30 destinations in the UK and Europe. The airport is popular with business people due to its easy access to the financial district.
The airport is only 2 miles from the site of the 2012 Games and 6 miles from the City. It is served by the Docklands Light Railway, an overground system connected to the Tube in the East of London. It runs between 5.30 am and midnight Monday to Friday and less frequently at the weekend. It takes 22 minutes to get to Bank, in the heart of the City of London.
The airport is also served by local buses which will take you to destinations all over London. There is a long stay car park at the airport for those arriving by car.
Top tip: Many people are attracted to this airport because it has the lowest check-in times and a ‘no queue’ policy, which makes the average time to process security 2 minutes. There is also free wi-fi access in the departure lounge, which is silent – no tannoy announcements or boarding calls – to allow passengers to continue working in peace.
There is a Short Stay car park adjacent to the terminal. The Main Stay car park is a short walk from the terminal and costs slightly less. No booking is required for either, but you can make a saving by booking long stay parking in advance. Parking a car at City Airport is extremely expensive. Motorbikes and bicycles can park free of charge.
A meet and greet parking service is also offered at this airport, by Executive Chauffeur Parking. A driver will collect your car at the terminal, park it for you, and bring it back for you on your return.
