Newcastle Airport is 6 miles north west of the city. Passengers come from the surrounding area to use the airport, as well as from Cumbria, North Yorkshire and southern Scotland. It offers domestic flights with low-cost carriers, as well as flights to cities in Europe and a limited number of international destinations.
There are a few options for getting to the airport. If you choose to drive, there are long and short stay car parks available for you to use. The airport has a stop on the Tyne and Wear Metro. It takes 25 minutes to reach the centre of Newcastle and services run between about 6 am and midnight, with trains every 12 minutes. It takes 55 minutes to reach Sunderland, and the system also serves Gateshead and North and South Tyneside. Newcastle Airport does not have its own train station on the national rail network, but if you catch a train to Newcastle Central Railway Station you can take the metro from there out to the airport. There are also local bus services running to the airport.
All the on-site car parks are located near the airport terminal building. They all have CCTV and regular patrols and are covered by the Park Mark Award for Safer Parking. Prices are on the high side, but you can save a lot by booking in advance online.
The Long Stay car park is a few minutes away from the terminal by courtesy shuttle, which runs 24 hours a day. Short Stay car parks 1 and 2 are just outside the entrance to the terminal and are suitable for stay of a few hours to several days. For stays of 1 to 2 days, it is cheaper or almost the same price to use the Short Stay car parks. For longer stays, it is much better to use the Long Stay car park. The Short Stay Fast Track car park is the most expensive option and offers immediate access to the terminal and fast track access through the security search.
There are 5 off-site car parks near Newcastle Airport, which also offer courtesy transport to the terminal building. There are also 3 companies offering meet and greet services, where a driver collects your vehicle at the terminal and brings it back for you on your return. If you can’t find a good price on the on-site car parks it’s worth shopping around for a cheaper rate.
