Excellent post - I like how you laid out all of the positions available, how to get those positions, and what to expect pay-wise.

He must have been some sort of celebrity in the airport.

I'm happy to learn that the Stockholm project came into being.I wrote a blog post about it when I learned that it was being planned. (http://travel-babel.blogspot.com/2008/01/possible-conversion-of-wide-body-jet-to.html) And your other unusual aircraft, grounded or otherwise are fascinating. .

If you're looking for a great place to stay when arriving in Stockholm or leaving, it's perfect for transits--a great way to say "hello" or "goodbye" to Sweden.

For those looking for party hostels, this is NOT the place to go and hopefully never wil be. It's upscale and affordable for couples and budget-conscious business travellers (they all should be shouldn't they?), and ideal for families with a son or daugther between age 10 and teen who want to tell their friends about the "cool" jet they stayed on. There is also a roomy suite in the cockpit with bath and shower. On the mail level (economy class) the rooms offer one double bed and a single bunk above--incredibly comfortable sleeping. The rooms are small, but typical for hostels. The bathrooms, 6 at the rear and two handicapped size at the front, are well-appointed with excellent hot shower and good pressure, sink, and toilet. And at the rear of the plane is a roomy area with long stainless steel sink, mirrors and hairdryers. Two computers are available with Internet connection, and guests with computers are offered a password for connection also. Breakfast is more fun than good, but it'll do in a pinch. Extra fruit, ice cream, microwavable meals, and a coffee machine with excellent hot chocolate are also on hand for reasonable prices.

Don't forget to remove your shoes at the door. This is Scandinavia, and hostel owners care dearly for their establishments and expect guests to do the same.
